Precarious prospects: oil in northern Kenya

This digital story tells the story of changing lives and livelihoods in Lokichar, a small town in Turkana County, and surrounding villages that are at the centre of northern Kenya’s oil frontier.

The digital story is based on findings from the ESRC-DFID funded project on ‘Large-scale resource development at the rural margins: assessing implications for governance, conflict and peacebuilding in Ivory Coast and Kenya’.

The story is narrated by Jeremy Lind and edited by Vivienne Benson, communications officer at the Institute of Development Studies. Images are from acclaimed photographer Sven Torfinn and Turkana-based Evans Otieno.
